Canada’s Quebec Appalachian Walk
2008 Itinerary
Day 1 Transfer from Quebec City Airport to your quaint guesthouse for the week.
Day 2 Leave the Auberge with your walking guide M. Gilles Leclerc, to visit the trails of Mont Mégantic. You’ll walk to the top of Mont St-Joseph, to tour the Astronomic National Park. Picnic lunch is made of home grown ingredients and you’ll have spectacular views to enjoy while you eat. In the afternoon you will enjoy a visit to the Astrolab Museum and discover the science of the universe. It offers many activities for everyone, including interactive exhibitions and a high definition multimedia show at the base of the mountain as well as tours of the observatories at the summit.
Day 3 Near your accommodation is Mont Saint Sébastien, one of the Appalachian Mountains, which gives you the opportunity to see a Granite Rocks interpretation. Walk on these very wild trails where the views are just amazing, with many surprise views appear as you walk of the multiple lakes that decorate this ecological territory. After walking the trails you’ll have the chance to spend some time at the Museum of Granite at the top of this hill. Take time to visit the artifact boutique and the interesting exposition.
Day 4 Mont Coleraine is near the area of the Thetford Mines, where the pine forest surrounds you. These trails are well landscaped, and offer a unique environment. You can take a break and admiring this incredible view. The peacefulness is fabulous. The forest is well preserved.
Day 5 In the middle of the Appalachian Mountain chain is Mont Gosford, whose trail brings you to the nearby Lake Mégantic. On those trails you will discover an old growth forest, with spruce and maple syrup trees. Picnic in these fabulous woods.
Day 6 Today you will visit the National Park of Frontenac is a Natural Wildlife Preserve, where a huge lake makes up majority of the park. Many trails are available around the lake, where large ponds attract 192 species of birds, including ducks and great herons, as well as 30 different mammals which include the occasional deer crossing the trails. A very pleasant beach gives you the chance to take a swim, and you can also rent a canoe or a kayak. This preserve gives you a chance to reflect on the tranquility and beauty of nature.
Day 7 Breakfast and transfer to the airport.
